"I am often asked about the 1980 Olympic boycott and whether I'm bitter about missing out on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  Though it was definitely disappointing, it is a journey, more than the final destination, that remains most vivid in my memory -- meeting and visiting fascinating people and places throughout the world, competing at the highest level in my sport and developing lifelong friendships...I have been fortunate to be guided by close, caring family and warm friends and neighbors, inspiring teachers, coaches and administators, and most of all a loving God.  To all, I am thankful."
